Wahiawa Town: 100 Years Proud

error-file:TidyOut.log

The year 1998 marked the Centennial Celebration of Wahiawa Town, a picturesque community on the central plain of Oahu and some 20 miles from downtown Honolulu. There, in 1898, shortly after the Hawaiian Islands were annexed by the United States, thirteen homesteaders—mainly from California—settled the raw land and began building the community which lives today.

Of course the story of Wahiawa did not start with the California homesteaders. The area was of great significance to the ancient Hawaiians as well. Please view our brief history of the region and check the special events which enriched the year-long Centennial Celebration. The award-winning essays by two Leilehua High School students provide a fresh perspective on bygone times. New scenics will occasionally appear, and the discussion forum—a real treasure of memories—is constantly growing, so please add our site to your bookmarks or hotlist and come back often!
